Classes/Camps

Studio 8 offers classes in jazz, ballet, tap, pointe, modern, lyrical, contemporary,hip hop, musical theatre, pilates, Zumba and creative movement classes to children and adults varying from beginner through to professional levels.

At Studio 8 we offer 3 different dance programs. We have special Sparkler Pre-Dance program for Ages 2.5-6. We offer Enrichment Classes for students that want to study dance for enjoyment. We also offer a Jump Start program that is designed for the motivated dancer that is serious about improving their dance technique. 

 

The Sparkler Pre-Dance Program

Classes use a creative dance approach to teaching technique. Fun props are incorporated into the dance curriculum to cultivate creativity. These classes will develop locomotor skills and help build self esteem through artistic expression.

Itty Bitty- 2.5-3.5 year olds

Mini- 3.5-5 year olds

Junior- 4.5-6 year olds

 

Enrichment Level Classes 

Ages 5-17 

Classes designed for students that want to study dance for enjoyment. No placement audition required. Our Enrichment classes are designed for students that want to have fun in a healthy and positive atmosphere. These classes are designated by the cream color on the class schedule.

 

JUMP START- Dance Program

Ages 6-18 

Classes designed for the motivated dancer who are serious about their dance training and meet the curriculum requirements at their level.  All dancers enrolled in the Jump Start division are expected to abide fully by the Student Code of Conduct & Etiquette. 

See Studio 8 website. Failure to abide by this student code for the entirety of the year may result in demoting of level or removal from the Jump Start Dance Program.

** Students in the JUMP START Dance division are required to participate fully in the entire School Year Program. **

** Registration will cut off in October and be closed for further registration for the following levels: Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple.**

Studio 8 determines the level of class placement.

Students advance levels only when they have completed ALL the technical requirements of the level.  

*New students* audition for class placement is required with the exception of the Enrichment Class level (Grey Level) and the Red level. 

Returning students please contact the Studio 8 office for class placement. Students may be in a variety of level(s) according to the  genre of dance class. 

Class Levels are broken into various levels designated by a color.

 

Red Level Classes

Required: (1) class per week

This level is designed for the beginner dancer . This level will focus on terminology and the meaning of the terms. This levels sets important groundwork for the well rounded dancer. Fundamentals of posture, alignment, turn out, pointing toes will be established at this level.

 

Orange Level Classes

Required: (1) classes per week (Recommended 2 classes per week)

This level is designed for the dancer that has accomplished the technical requirements of the Red level. At this level students are expected to understand & execute all the basic dance terminology and know the meanings of the terms. Dancers will build on their dance vocabulary through out the year at this level. It is highly recommended that dancers take both Jazz and Ballet class at this level in order to move up to the Yellow level. 

 

Yellow Level Classes

Required: (1) Jazz class, (1) Ballet Class per week (1) Kicks Leaps Turns

This level is for students that are ready to take their dancing to the next level. Class requirements increase to 3 classes per week at this level. Dancers at this level have accomplished the technical requirements of the Orange level. Dancers at this level are familiar with terminology and the structure & discipline of dance class. This level focuses on transforming the set technical skills into quality of movement, dancing with dynamics as well as further increasing their technical skills. Supplementary classes like Tap and additional ballet classes are recommended to prepare dancers to move up to the Green Level.

 

Green Level Classes

Ages 10-up

Required: (1) Jazz class, (2) Ballet classes per week  (1) Kicks Leaps Turns Class

This level is for the serious dancer that has the desire to increase their technique and learn more advanced movements. Dancers at this level have accomplished the technical requirements of the Yellow level.  Pointe shoes may be introduced at this level depending on the students age and strength. Class requirements increase to 4 classes per week at this level.  Ballet training is increased at this level, resulting in more advanced technical skills. Supplementary classes like Tap and additional ballet classes are recommended to prepare dancers to move up to the Green Level.

 

Blue Level Classes

Ages 14-up

Required: (1) Jazz class, (2) Ballet classes, (1) Pointe Class per week 

(1) Kicks Leaps Turns Class

 Dancers at this level have accomplished the technical requirements of the the Green level. Class requirements increase to 5 classes per week at this level. Dancers will increase their dance technique through hard work and will further their skills on Pointe.  This level is intended for dancers who’s goal is to become a professional dancer in the future.  A great work ethic, discipline, and focus are extremely important at this level. Supplementary classes like Tap, Lyrical and Contemporary are recommended to prepare dancers to move up to the Purple Level.

 

Purple Level Classes 

Ages 15-up

Required: (1) Jazz class, (2) Ballet classes, (1) Pointe Class 

(1) Lyrical or Contemporary per week (1) Kicks Leaps Turns Class

Dancers at this level have accomplished the technical requirements of the Blue level. Class requirements increase to 6 classes per week at this level. Dancers take a variety of classes so that they will be well rounded dancers. This level prepares dancers for the world of professional dance. This is the highest level of Studio 8’s Jump Start program. Students must have the maturity and strength to participate in classes at this level. This level is designed to help students enter the professional world of dancing and or move on to study dance in college and at a professional level.
